For the pottery projects, we used clay to form bowls and jars for personal (or charity) usage; the plasticity of clay allows us to do this very easily. Of course, they clay doesn't stay completely solid until you bisque-fire it or glaze-fire (bisque- putting bone-dry clay (also called greenware if ready for kiln) in kiln, glaze- putting clay painted a certain way in the kiln) it in the kiln. Before clay gets bone-dry (a fairly self-explanatory term), it gets leather hard which is, true to the name, as formable as leather would be, and easier to work with in some cases.
